Tennessee Man with Ultimate Road Rage Comes Out Shooting Motorcyclists

A Tennessee man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and jailed after allegedly stopping his SUV in the street to back over a motorcyclist and shooting another several times.

Rodney Lee Scott, who was charged in 2002 with stopping a car and assaulting a passenger on the same street, has been jailed on a $1 million bond, The Associated Press reported.

In Monday's incident, Scott nearly hit two motorcyclists, who waved their arms at him. First making obscene gestures, Scott braked on the street and backed into one of the motorcyclists, knocking him over, according to the police statement.

Scott has also been charged for fleeing the scene. The two motorcyclists and a witness followed Scott to his house and called the police. Scott, who is white, shouted racial slurs at the motorcyclists, one of whom is black, according to witnesses. He then went into his garage and came out shooting with a gun in each hand, the AP reported.

Scott hit Tyler Lakin "three times in the back and once in the wrist and continued firing at him as he lay in the road," according to the AP. Lakin is reportedly in stable condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Besides the attempted murder counts and the charge for fleeing the scene, Scott has been charged with attempted assault. He may be further charged depending on the results of blood-alcohol counts.

Knoxville County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley told the AP she did not know if Scott had a lawyer.

Sheriff's Office records showed that the charges related to the 2002 incident were dismissed when Scott successfully completed probation.
