2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Sets Nurburgring Road Record (VIDEO)

Chevrolet has released a video of its 2014 Camaro Z/28 setting a Nurburgring road course record or 7:37.40.

The time is four seconds faster than Chevrolet's run with the Camaro ZL1 back in 2011, according to a company press release.

Chevrolet was quick to point out its new vehicle posted faster times than the Porsche 911 Carrera S and Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

GM said that the Z/28 will be sold for around the same as the ZL1, which starts at $56,050, including a $995 destination fee.

"One of the challenges of testing at the 'Ring is that the track is so long that conditions can change radically in a single lap," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, in a statement. "Adam Dean, the development driver for Z/28, did a heroic job driving in deteriorating conditions. Based on telemetry data from our test sessions, we know the Z/28 can be as much as six seconds faster on a dry track."

The Camaro was able to set a new record despite damp driving conditions and pouring rain towards the end of the lap, according to the GM.

GM spent a full week in Germany as part of the vehicle's "performance-validation regimen," spending 10 hours and almost 1,000 miles on the track.

"We will announce pricing likely in early 2014, as the Z/28 goes on sale in the first quarter of next year," said Monte Doran, a Chevrolet spokesman, to Edmunds.
