General Motors has increased the prices of its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra by $1,500.
Prices increased by approximately 6 percent, according to GM, who spoke with Edmunds.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado starts at $26,670, including a $1,095 destination fee. The 2014 GMC Sierra starts at $27,170, including shipping.
The increases come at a time when there is increasingly stiff price competition in the pickup truck segment.
"We announced a $1,500 price increase on all cab styles effective for all vehicles invoiced after October 7," said Jim Cain, a GM spokesman.
The base Silverado now costs less than the 2014 Toyota Tundra, its main competitor. The 2014 Tundra is sold for $26,915, including a $995 destination charge.
The 2014 Ram 1500 is also less expensive. The Ram 1500 starts at $24,605, including a $1,095 destination charge.
The price increases are temporarily offset by incentive offers, like a $1,500 cash back offered through the end of the month, according to Edmunds.
