GM Recall: 21,000 Silverado Pickups Called Back Over Seat Issues

General Motors Co has announced it is recalling approximately 22,000 of its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks because of an issue with their seats.

GM said that if the trucks are struck from behind, the reclining seat backs might move more than allowed by safety regulators and not provide as much protection from injury.

No reports of accidents or injury related to this possible defect have been reported to GM as of press time.

Of the total of 21,721 pickup trucks called back, at least 18,972 are in the United States, 2,575 in Canada, 103 in Mexico and 71 outside North America, according to GM.

Owners of the new trucks can have the seats inspected at their nearby dealership and, if necessary, repaired at GM.

Any necessary repairs will be done so free of charge, GM said.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not commented on the recall as it is still not posting recall announcements on its website due to the government shutdown.

GM also recalled 1,658 Sonic vehicles earlier this week over a fuel tank issue.
