A 71-year-old man and his dog were killed this week while out for a walk in Easton, Connecticut after being struck by an Infiniti sedan.
The man was walking his dog at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 2 when they were hit by a 2005 Infiniti, according to Gregg Miliote, spokesman for Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter, said in a press statement.
Easton police received a 911 call shortly after the man was hit on 24 Summer St., where the man was identified as George E. Power, according to The Boston Globe.
Power was found lying in the front yard of a house by the time firefighters responded. His shoes were approximately 50 feet away from his body, according to Captain James Walsh of the Easton Fire Department in a press statement.
"There was quite a bit of debris covering the roadway, fluid spills, heavy damage to the vehicle," said Miliote, according to The Boston Globe.
A section of Summer Street was closed off for approximately 3 hours.
Power was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m., according to officials.
The 17-year-old driver was the only person in the car, according to CBS News. The driver was taken to Brockton Hospital, but the extent of his injuries are not currently known.
The driver's name has not been released as of press time.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office will determine if charges will be filed in the investigation.
