2015 Nissan Titan to Come With New Cummins V8 Turbo-Diesel Engine

The 2015 Nissan Titan pickup will come with a new Cummins V8 turbo-diesel engine, allowing the vehicle to compete with the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

Nissan has yet to announce when the redesigned vehicle will go into production, but Reuters reported the truck will be released as a 2015 model vehicle.

"Truck owners told us there's a demand for the performance and torque of a diesel in a capable truck that doesn't require the jump up to a heavy-duty commercial pickup," said Fred Diaz, Nissan's U.S. sales and marketing chief, in a press statement.

Prototypes of the new Titan, which was designed in California, will be built in Mississippi, and are currently going through engineering tests on public roads.

Interested customers can expect a turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 rated at over 300 hp, with 500 lb.-ft. of torque.

Diesels usually get better mileage and can carry/tow larger loads.

"It's our logo, not a Ram logo. We worked with Ram on the logo and we'll work with Nissan," said Cummins spokesman Dave Groggin in a press statement. "Clearly both automakers see value having our logo on the side of their vehicles."

Groggin also said Cummins is going to work with Nissan on the logo.

The engine will be built near Cummins headquarters in Columbus, Indiana according to Reuters.

The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was revealed earlier this year and will go on sale either later this year or in early 2014.
