Iraq police have announced multiple car bombs in Baghdad have killed approximately 33 people and injured over 100.
Police said one bomb went off around 300 yards outside of Baghdad's international zone, which is near Iraq's Foreign Ministry. Four were killed in the explosion and 12 others were wounded according to Reuters.
Another car bomb went off near a bus station in a northern Shiite neighborhood, which killed eight people and wounded another 18.
"Cowardly terrorists targeted unarmed citizens in seven places in Baghdad," the Interior Ministry said in a press statement.
Attacks have increased in Iraq since a security crackdown in April on a Sunni protest camp. Over 3,000 people have been killed in attacks since then, causing some concern that Iraq might be heading towards a civil war, which almost happened in 2006 and 2007.
A car bomb exploded near a group of day laborers in the Allawi area where government offices are based. Six people were killed there and 13 were wounded according to Reuters.
In eastern Baghdad, seven more were killed and 15 people were wounded when a car exploded near a traffic police office.
Three more car bombings have also been confirmed by the Associated Press. Approximately seven people were killed and 30 were injured during those explosions.
The U.S. said it will work closely with Iraq officials to confront al Qaeda and will discuss this during an upcoming visit with Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari this week in Washington.
