Honda officially revealed its new Civic Tourer this weekend ahead of its scheduled debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
The new Tourer will be produced at the company's UK manufacturing plant in Swindon along with other Civic hatchback vehicles like the Jazz and CR-V.
"I am very proud of the Civic Tourer's sporty, sleek and dynamic proportions, which somewhat hide the car's true functionality and versatility," said Adrian Killham, Large Project Leader, Civic Tourer, according to a company press release. "To achieve true utility on a compact car, you have to consider how to make the most of the space in the cabin, which generally also affects the design."
The vehicle will come available with two engine options: a new 1.6-DTEC engine from the Earth Dreams Technology series and the 1.8 i-VTEC engine in manual and automatic transmission according to Honda.
The 1.6-DTEC engine is made from an aluminum cylinder head joined to an open deck aluminum block according to Honda.
The exterior of the new Tourer is "sleek and sporty," and will have a distinctive style compared to the previous model.
"Due to the clever platform of the Civic, we had freedom to optimize the package. The end result is a car that has almost a sports-car silhouette," said Killham. "For me, the strength of the car is the synergy of functionality, versatility, and dynamic expression."
The fuel tank will be located under the front seats, which allows the Tourer to offer more space according to the company press release. The cargo area allows space for two full-sized mountain bikes or three large-sized Samsonite cases.
Expect the new model in showrooms sometime in early 2014.
The Frankfurt Motor Show has been scheduled for Sept. 10 - 22 according to the show's website. The Honda Press Conference will take place on Sept. 10.
"At first glance it is clear that the Civic Tourer does not look like other Wagons. Recently-launched cars have tended to follow a similar style. The Civic Tourer has a different balance and appeal," said Killham.
