Mazda3 Priced at $17,740 With 41 MPG (VIDEO)

Mazda revealed the pricing information for its new Mazda3 sedan, which will be sold for a base price under $18,000.

The sedan with manual transmission will start at $17,740, including a $795 destination fee. This represents only a $245 price increase compared to its predecessor according to Mazda.

The price comes as a surprise considering how much more updated the new Mazda is.

The new model comes equipped with either a 155-hp SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 184-hp SkyActiv-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

The base Mazda 3 sedan with the 2.0-liter engine gets either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission according to a company press release.

The Mazda3 will compete with the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, and the Honda Civic.

The EPA said the new Mazda3 hatchback with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission returns 30 mpg in city driving and 40 on the highway. Models equipped with a six-speed manual transmission return 29 mpg in city driving and 40 mpg on the highway.

The Mazda3 sedan with the six-speed manual transmission returns 29 mpg in city driving and 41 mpg on the highway according to the EPA.

-Mazda3 i SV sedan, manual: $17,740

-Mazda3 i SV sedan, automatic: $18,790

-Mazda 3 i Sport sedan, manual: $19,240

-Mazda 3 i Sport hatchback, manual: $19,740

-Mazda3 i Touring sedan, manual: $20,390

-Mazda3 i Touring hatchback, manual: $20,890

 -Mazda3 i Grand Touring sedan, manual: $23,540

-Mazda3 i Grand Touring hatchback, manual: $24,040

Add an additional $1,050 for six-speed auto, which is available for each model besides the I SV sedan manual and automatic according to Mazda.
