Nokia Lumia 1020 Review: New 4.5-Inch Phone Packed With 41-Megapixel Camera (VIDEO)

Nokia finally released its highly anticipated Lumia 1020 phone today, July 11, after months of teasing fans through leaked photos and videos.

The new Windows 8 device will be sold in the U.S. through AT&T for approximately $299.99 with a two-year contract according to Nokia.

Preorders will begin on July 16, and the Lumia will be available for purchase in stores and online on July 26.

Nokia has said the phone will be released world-wide at a later date.

The main attraction to the new device is unquestionably its new camera.

"We have helped people capture pictures for more than a decade. Now we can help people see more than their eyes can see," Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said at a New York City press conference to introduce the phone according to USA Today. "This is the next chapter in smartphone photography."

The latest Nokia device is equipped with a 41 megapixel-image sensor, Zeiss optics, and manual shutter.

The camera also includes autofocus, and dual-flash system according to Nokia’s website. The phone is capable of catching a 1080 HD video at a rate of approximately 30 frames per second.

The phone’s camera easily tops iPhone 5’s 8-megapixel option, and also has 6x high-resolution zoom.

"It captures clearer pictures all of the time -- during the day and also at night," Elop said at the press conference according to USA Today.
Some of the new apps made available for the new device includes Nokia’s Pro Camera app which teaches people how to use the advance features. Other apps like Hipstamatic, Foursquare, and Vyclone have been updated to work with the new camera features.

Users still can’t download the Instagram app as well as a number of other popular ones still only available on Android and iPhone devices.

"Windows Phone is an excellent operating system, but there is nothing wrong with iOS or Android, and those operating systems have larger app ecosystems," said Avi Greengart, research director of consumer devices at Current Analysis, to ABC News. "Nokia really needs something that gets consumers to sit up and take notice, and the imaging capabilities on the Lumia 1020 are quite extraordinary."

The phone features a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display with a 1,280 x 768-pixel HD display and a 16:9 aspect ratio according to Nokia. The sensitive touch screen allows people to operate the device with your fingernail or if you’re wearing a glove.

Expect 32GB of internal memory but no card slot for expanding memory according to Nokia. The device has a maximum talk time of 8.2 hours with 2G, 12.5 hours with 3G, and 53 hours of music play time.
