Tesla vs. Car Dealers: ‘We the People’ Petition Reaches Over 100,000 Signatures (VIDEO)

A White House petition in support of Tesla Motors has officially received over 100,000 signatures and the company is now awaiting an official response from the Obama Administration.

The petition, which focuses on Tesla Motors right to sell vehicles without using a dealer, reached the 100,000 signature mark required in order for the White House to even consider looking at it.

There was only three days left on the petition to reach the mark and with only 3,000 signatures to go, the petition reached its goal with time to spare after a huge push earlier today.

"States should now be allowed to prevent Tesla Motors from selling cars directly to customers," the petition reads. "The state legislators are trying to unfairly protect automobile dealers in their states from competition. Tesla is providing competition, which is good for consumers."

States like Texas, New York, and Virginia don't want the company to be allowed to run without having to go through a dealer and have fought the California based company tooth and nail since it was first founded back in 2010.

Tesla, run by CEO Elon Musk, is looking to create direct-to-consumer locations across the country, but there are state laws that prevent the company from doing so. The petition will hopefully open up the Obama Administration's eyes to allow Tesla to sell vehicles as it pleases.

The 100,000 signatures does not mean the Obama administration has to review it, but it certainly helps. Only time will tell whether or not Tesla receives the ground-breaking news they've been waiting to hear, but the petition does warn though that sign it that a response will probably come from other administration officials.

The petition is currently at 102,119 signatures as of press time.

What do you think about the petition reaching over 100,000 signatures? Will it help Tesla sell vehicles directly to customers in every state?
