After its launch in the Japanese domestic market in late 2016, Suzuki Motor took the wrap off of its new 2018 Suzuki Swift for Europe at this year's 2017 Geneva Motor Show as a new global compact supermini. The new Swift portrays as an automotive advancement that is aimed at uplifting the driver through evolution, innovation, and succession.
The new Swift utilizes Suzuki's new platform which makes the car 30 kg lighter than the outgoing model and has contributed to the car registering a curb weight of around 890 kg - 120 kg lighter overall for the whole vehicle. The car is also 10mm shorter than the current model, 15mm lower, 40mm wider, while the wheelbase is 20mm longer, which makes more interior room including a 25 percent more luggage capacity rated at 254L or 54 liters more than the current model.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift suspension uses the traditional MacPherson strut design placed at the front and beams axle at the rear, and different upgrades have been done during the development. An example would be the front stabilizer bar which is now shorter and has an of hollow design, and the subframe is of lighter construction. Redesigned features at the rear included a new shape cross member and modified trailing arms to increase cornering stability further.
Under the hood, a choice of 1.2-liter Dualjet and 1.0-liter Boosterjet engines will be available. The 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine has an output of 111PS and is also Direct Injection Turbocharged and offers 170Nm of torque available from 2,000rpm through 3,500rpm. An optional six-speed automatic transmission model produces 160Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the 1.2-liter Dualjet engine incorporates Suzuki's newest engine tech and uses twin fuel injectors for better fuel economy. Maximum power output of the Dualjet is 90PS with a torque figure of 120Nm at 4,400rpm.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift is anticipated to be available locally with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of a new-generation infotainment system. Buyers in Europe will also have a chance to get a hybrid version and an available AWD.
