Houston Airport Shooting: 1 Dead After Apparent Suicide At Security Checkpoint (VIDEO)

A man died after shots were fired earlier today, May 2, at a terminal checkpoint at Houston Intercontinental Airport. The wound was supposedly self-inflicted according to Houston Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva.

Police have confirmed that the armed man as shot near a ticket counter near Terminal B outside the security perimeter and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A call claiming there had been a "discharge of firearms" was reported to local police at approximately 1:35 p.m. according to the Associated Press.

"It seemed like quite a few shots. Everyone was scrambling, running left and running right, turning tables up and hiding behind tables. Nobody knew what was happening," said Greg New burn, who was waiting for a flight near Terminal B according to the Associated Press. "I couldn't tell where the shots were coming from," he said.

The shooter allegedly walked into the airport with a military-style semi-automatic rifle, fired two shots in the air, causing an air marshal to fire at the suspect.

The man then shot himself at least once in the head according to the Associated Press.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for all flights at the airport, as of 2:15 p.m. central time. Terminal B is reportedly still closed as the area is still being investigated.

The FBI officially took over the investigation as of press time.

There were no other injuries or suspected involved in the shooting.
