Ford Unveils Escort Concept, Fiesta ST, Other Models At Shanghai Auto Show (VIDEO)

Ford unveiled the new Escort Concept and several other new models at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show in China this weekend according to a company press release.

The company stated last week that they're planning on introducing 15 new models in China by 2015 and so far the company is right on track to do so.

"This compact concept highlights the strength of our global One Ford approach to vehicle design, and represents how we can make use of our global design language to bring refined designs to attainable vehicles," Jim Farley, executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln, Ford Motor Company, said in the company release. "Designed with the Chinese consumer in mind, the new Escort Concept has the potential to strengthen our product portfolio here in China as we take advantage of opportunities for diversification within the compact car segment."

Ford failed to provide dimensions or any mechanical specifications regarding the new Escort, but the company promises that the model will show "the future vision" for how Ford will expand its global concept platform in China.

"By listening to our customers in China, we have developed the Ford Escort Concept to serve a new class of compact car customers," said Jim Farley, executive vice president for global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln, in the company release. "These are customers whose needs are not being completely met by existing compact cars."

Ford gave more information away regarding their new Mondeo vehicle, of which the company called the "premier expression of Ford's new global design language."

The model will be made available with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with 133kW of power. A 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine will also be made available according to Ford.

Other vehicles that will be shown off by Ford at the Auto Show include the new Fiesta and Fiesta ST, the Explorer, EcoSport, and Kunga SUVs.

A new engine option will be made available for the 2014 Fusion in the U.S. as well according to Joe Bakaj, the head of Ford's powertrain engineering.
