Monster truck driver Lee O'Donnell took home the 2017 Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship. Donnell landed the first-ever monster truck front flip on Sunday.
As usual, Monster Truck Freestyle Runs never fail to bring the inner redneck out of its audience. The entertainment value of the event is just undeniably good.
Mad Scientist with driver Lee O'Donnell brought the first ever Monster Truck front flip. Without any fear nor hesitation, O'Donnell made the nail-biting flip in his truck.
O'Donnel did this during the Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship at a sold-out crowd Sam Boyd stadium in Whitney, Nevada, US. The remarkable, historic flip put Lee O'Donnell on top of the leaderboards with a whopping score of 9.355. He beat off the competition from Neil Elliott, who went in second.
There is no doubt that what O'Donnell did was impossible. But Elliott also came up with an impressive move of his own. Elliott performed an unorthodox maneuver. He reversed up the ram, rotate, and end back on all four tires. He was the first monster truck to complete an impeccable move.
However, despite his gallant effort, Elliot's move just wasn't enough to top O'Donnell front flip. He finished the competition in second place with a score of 9.316.
O'Donnell gave an emotional speech after his coronation. In his speech, he said, "My wife and my kids, they mean the world to me, and they're here tonight. My sponsor, VP Racing Fuels, is amazing. Everyone has been trying that trick that Neil Elliott nailed; it was spectacular. I give it up to him. My crew guys, they're family and at the track every weekend. The fans here are like family to me, and I can't thank Feld Entertainment and Monster Jam enough. This is awesome!"
Watch the video below O'Donnell's "Mad Scientist" goes wrong-side up through the ramps. The truck was a 1,500 horsepower, 500 ci beast who clearly impressed everyone from the audience, and the internet.
