1-Year-Old Hit By Bullet Accidentally During California Shooting (VIDEO)

A one-year-old boy was injured during a California shooting this week when a fragment of a bullet entered his neck according to a report by CBS News.

"I am sickened, I am appalled. This is completely unacceptable and it is our highest priority to catch those who are involved," said Richmond Chief of Police Chris Magnus according to ABC affiliate KGO-TV.

The incident occurred in a Richmond town at around 1:15 p.m. on Mar. 28 according to a police report. Over 75 people, including "dozens" of police were at the scene on the western edge of the city's Iron Triangle just minutes after shots were fired according to Mercury News.

At least four rounds struck the apartment from approximately 30 yards away from where the supposed shooter fired.

The boy's father Rosshan Ali spoke with ABC and said that the boy's grandparents were watching him when the shooting took place.

"This shouldn't happen, my son didn't do nothing to nobody, I didn't do nothing to nobody," Ali said according to ABC. "I go to work and come home you know. And it's not my fault I live in a certain area," he says.

The boy was quickly taken to a Children's Hospital where he underwent an emergency surgical procedure. Doctors claim that the surgery was a success and that the boy will be fine, though he is still recovering and being treated for "non-life-threatening injuries" as of press time according to ABC.

A 20-year-old man who was riding by on his bike was also shot during the incident. He's being treated for "non-life-threatening injuries" as well.

"As far as I know my mom was inside watching him. Like I said, my fiancé came home from work. She was in the shower, and next thing you know, shots fired and my mom grabbed him and ran into the kitchen," said Ali according to ABC. "They gotta get more stricter gun laws. It's not right how people just get their hands on weapons. It actually sucks."

Police have yet to find the shooter and have no current suspects as of press time.

A $25,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to an arrest according to CBS. Anyone with information is asked to call Richmond police at 510-233-1214. Anonymous tips can be called in at 510-232-8477.
