Brace yourselves, AMD Radeon RX Vega is coming, very soon. Note the operational word, "very soon." The company's Tech Summit in Beijing, China, revealed very good information for the highly anticipated chips.
AMD recently hosted its Tech Summit in Beijing China and CEO Lisa Su took to the stage teasing about the imminent availability of the Ryzen 5 CPUs. She also gleefully teased the AMD Radeon RX Vega, which by the sound of things might come within a matter of weeks.
Some good news makes the Summit more interesting. The biggest perhaps is that the presence of AMD Radeon RX Vega in notebooks.
AMD VP Scott Herkelman has confirmed that the Vega chips will be available in notebooks, in some form. The company hasn't made their own name when it comes to notebooks because of the too much power drawn by its chips, which paved the way for Nvidia dominating.
Despite scarce information other than the said confirmation, pointed out that the Vega 11 GPU with a single HBM2 stack could possibly be available as a dedicated high-performance GPU for gaming and professional workstation notebooks, reports WCCFTech.
The second bit of good news, or more like amazing news, is that AMD Radeon RX Vega cards are set to come in 8GB and 4GB HBM2 configurations. Also, both configurations will use 2nd-generation HBM2 that offers not only greater power efficiency but also improved memory bandwidth compared with the 1st-gen HBM used in the Fury chips, according to Game-Debate. The report further noted that the Vega chips will indeed be faster, but will be smaller as well.
Now, when will AMD release its Radeon RX Vega cards? It is expected that these bad boys (enthusiast graphics cards) will hit stores between May 30 and June, while the RX500 refresh will probably begin rolling out around April. Pricing-wise, AMD has not officially unveiled pricing for its new lineup but many are expecting it to be just below that of Nvidia, much similar to the Ryzen architecture that is priced half that of Intel's. But we will have to wait as most companies announce price details a week prior to its release.
During the Summit in Beijing, Herkelman professed his excitement that the AMD Radeon RX Vega card "is only around the corner." Plus, more and more demos will be shared as its launch draws closer. In fact, just last month, it has teased the Vega cards in the Bethesda's upcoming Sci-Fi first person shooter game preview, "Prey." It has been revealed that the game will be optimized for its Ryzen CPUs and Vega GPUs.
