A new generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class compact hatch is currently in the works. Not that many details are known about the upcoming vehicle from the German car manufacturer although new spy shot has recently hit the internet.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class compact hatch. A preview of the new A-Class's design was provided via Mercedes-Benz's 2017 Design Essentials workshop called Aesthetics A. The design showed a new A-Class being worked on with a front section that is expected to closely resemble the one on the current A-Class hatch.

Basing off new spy shots of the 2018 A-Class, it appears that its dimensions are similar to the current model. It seems that it sports stretched rear doors making the wheelbase appear longer. This could mean more interior space. The upcoming vehicle's design is said to be more evolutionary than revolutionary with a lot of elements carried over from the 2017 model.

Although the interior is masked to a great degree, one can still make out the dash that seems to have an integrated central screen. This is opposed to the central screen being mounted which is the case on the 2017 A-Class.

The side mirrors are no longer above the base of the A-pillars. Instead, they are mounted on the doors. It is speculated that this was done to better visibility. There are appears to be strange marking on the vehicle's windshield which could possibly be sensors for a suite of driver-assistance features.

It is expected that the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be the first vehicle to be built on a new version of the Modular Front-Drive Architecture (MFA) platform which Mercedes-Benz uses on its compact vehicles. The new platform is said be called MFA2.

Underneath the upcoming compact hatch's hood will most likely be inline-4 engines. Dual-clutch transmissions could feature prominently in the new vehicle's trims.
