You Can Now Purchase an Electric Bike Wheel For Your Cycling Needs

Now, cyclists can buy an electric bike wheel for their bicycles. It's the future of bicycling.

Now, several electric bike wheels have invaded the market. From Omni Wheel, Electron Wheel, and GeoOrbital Wheel, all of these aims to replace a regular bike's front wheels with an electric one.

Recently, Singapore-based company, Urban X, decided to join the "electric bike wheel" market with its Eco and Booster wheels. What makes Urban X special is its lower price and lighter wheels.

Plus, both the Eco and Booster wheels from UrbanX can be swapped with a bike's regular front wheel in under a minute, according to reports. After the wheel's been changed and it's powered up, it will then augment the cyclist's pedaling power with its own integrated motor.

If that feature isn't impressive enough, maybe these facts are: the Eco model has a 240-watt motor. On the other hand, the Booster has a 350-watt motor.

Both models are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack which can be removed from the wheel when it is time to recharge. Each 1.5-hour charge can go as far as 30 miles (48 kilometers).

There will also be a motor-assist feature which can be selected via Bluetooth using an iOS/Android app on the rider's handlebar-mounted phone. Additionally, the app also displays data such as the current speed and battery charge level.

There is also an optional bar-mounted controller which allows the wheel mode to be used in a throttle similar to that of a motorbike's. As for the top speed, the Eco can reach 15 miles per hour (25 kilometers per hour) while the Booster reaches 20 miles per hour (33 kilometers per hour).

These electric bike wheels are made from aircraft aluminum. It weighs 15 lb (7 kg) compared to other brands' electric front wheels which weigh 20 lb (9 kg).

According to UrbanX, the Eco will cost $699 and the Booster will be on sale for $799. These prices are smaller compared to the other electric bike wheels sold for $1,249.

UrbanX electric bike wheels are still a subject of a Kickstarter campaign, but it has already exceeded its funding goal. Keep checking back on Auto World News for more updates.
