Volvo’s Electric Car Will Offer Competitive Price & Similar Range To Beat Tesla Model 3 & Chevrolet Bolt?

Volvo is launching its upcoming electric car in 2019 with a very competitive price to beat Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt EV. Volvo has also teased its plan to offer a range of 250 miles or more from the upcoming EV.

Volvo Car USA CEO Lex Kerssemakers recently unveiled an interesting chunk of information regarding the company's plan linked to electric vehicles. Apparently, the automaker is currently working on a project to launch an electric car sporting a base price tag around $35,000 and $40,000.

Aside from the same price level, Volvo also aims to be at par with the minimum range capacity of its rivals. Volvo is reportedly planning to launch an electric car which also offers a range of 250 miles or more, which is also similar to the Bolt EV and Model 3.

With regard to specs, the upcoming EV from Volvo is anticipated to share the brand's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. However, the new EV will also need to utilize its own set of modular electrification underpinnings.

Car enthusiasts can recall that Volvo has introduced two electric-vehicle design concepts last May 2016. The public has seen the 40.1 crossover and the 40.2 sedan, which points to the direction for XC40 crossover and S40 sedan. Volvo also mentioned that they will be introducing an EV which will be based on the S40, CarAndDriver reported.

Meanwhile, considering the teased price and range of the upcoming EV, GreenOptimistic notes that the new model will most likely be a sedan, instead of an SUV type. The publication explains that users look for sufficient range in choosing a sedan and since the automaker has revealed its target for the range, the figures seem to point to a sedan model.

As of this time, Volvo has not disclosed the name of the upcoming electric car. Watch out for our next update on this new EV rival of Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt EV.
