Toyota Recalls 209,000 FJ Cruisers For Seatbelt Issues

Toyota Motor Corp. announced today, Mar. 15 that they'll be recalling 209,000 FJ Cruiser vehicles because an issue with the front seatbelt according to the Associated Press.

The issue with the SUVs is that the front seatbelt retractors could fall off, putting the driver and front passengers in potential danger if it does.

The recall was voluntary according to a Toyota spokesperson. Cruisers manufactured in 2007 through 2013 have been included in the recall according to the National Highway Safety Administration.

The seat belt retractors for the driver and front passenger side are mounted in the vehicle's rear access doors according to Toyota. Due to "insufficient strength of the rear door pane," crack can develop over a period of time if the door is closed repeatedly and occasionally "forcefully."

Toyota has yet to receive any reports of an injury or crash due to the defect.

Owners of the FJ models will start receiving letters in the mail within the next couple of months. Toyota has already stated publicly that all FJ owners are to bring their vehicles to a Toyota dealer after receiving their letter and that all repairs regarding the recall will be free of charge.

For more information, owners can call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or go to www.toyota.com/recall.
