One device sporting revolutionary technology that has long been speculated is the foldable smartphone by Samsung. There have been claims that the Korean tech giant is working on a mobile device with a touchscreen display capable of folding and bending but there has never been any official word on the matter to date.
Could foldable smartphone from Samsung be unveiled soon? According to the Korean news website ETNews, the foldable smartphone might be unveiled in the later part of this year. What is most likely going to be unveiled will be a prototype of the mobile device which will be given to specific users for testing.
Feedback provided from the users to the Korean tech giant will most likely be used to assess consumer demand. It is claimed that only a few devices, most probably a few thousands only, will be produced for this purpose. Given this, an actual launch could happen in 2018 with this year reserved for testing and assessments.
An earlier report from The Korea Herald said that the mobile device would be unveiled during the third quarter of this year. It also mentioned that Korean tech giant hopes to produce more than 100,000 units of it.
A 2-in-1 mobile device would be able to revolutionize the industry. A smartphone and a tablet in one with just a few bends would be something quite of a convenience.
Korean news website ETNews also reported that the company had shown a prototype of the mobile device in its early stages at the Mobile World Congress to a select few. This aligns with the website's claim of the company's plans to distribute the prototype to specific users for testing and feedback gathering.
The foldable 2-in-1 mobile device has been dubbed the Samsung Galaxy X. However, it is also known as Project Valley according to PC Advisor. It is expected to compete directly with another much-speculated device, the Apple iPhone 8.
