A Montana man accused of waterboarding four children as a "learning experience" has reached a plea deal with prosecutors according to the Associated Press.

William Province, 42, was found guilty on four misdemeanor counts and received two years of probation.

Waterboarding is defined as the practice in which one person "gives the other the feeling that they are drowning" by dumping water on their face with a cloth over their mouth and nose according to Dictionary.com.

The practice has been banned for CIA troops who previously used it in Guantanamo Bay according to Yahoo.

Province used his hands instead of a cloth to cover his two sons' mouth and face as he "attempted to teach them survival skills."

Prosecutors allege two other children, who lived next door to Province, told Child Protective Services that the father also waterboarded them, the Associated Press. His ex-girlfriend also confessed that she saw Province pouring water over boys on a number of occasions.

District Judge James B. Wheelis sentenced Province to 10 days in jail, for each of the four misdemeanor endangerment charges, minus the 80 days he has already spent in custody according to The Independent Record.

A plea deal was agreed upon after a "thorough review" of all the evidence according to Jefferson County Attorney Matthew Johnson. The initial charges of making threats to family members, a local school and others in the community were dismissed in return for a guilty plea.

Witnesses claimed Province had three rifles and ammunition in his house, but after receiving a warrant, local police officials were only able to find body armor. After a second investigation, they were able to find "some" ammunition and the previously mentioned rifles, that could belong to Province.

The weapons have not been confirmed to be under Province's name as of press time according to The Independent Record.
