Tough day for car enthusiasts who wants to see modified Mercedes AMG cars because the upcoming Mercedes X-Class will probably have no such modification. Instead, this new car will somehow have a concept that resembles the Nissan Navarra.
This new concept is Mercedes-Benz's attempt to enter the world of Australian premium utility cars. In Australia, there is a high-demand of utility cars in the market.
Mercedes AMG boss Tobias Moers explained that it is unlikely that their design might not be perfect the first time. Even though, Mercedes X-Class will still have the signature sophisticated design of Mercedes-Benz, reported Drive.
Moers also explained that it is difficult to transform a commercial vehicle into a high-end car. He explained that they have yet to discover the complexities that come with this transformation.
Despite the fact that Mercedes-Benz had once transformed heavy duty-off roaders, they still developing a lot of projects like the Project One super sports car. Tobias Moers said that in his opinion hypercars are more important than pick-up trucks.
However, this doesn't mean that the company is not working on the Mercedes X-Class. Recently, CarAdvice spotted Mercedes-Benz doing some winter testing in Northern Europe.
The new prototype had better headlights than the previous prototypes, including Mercedes-Benz's well-known stick-style LED lights. The car has noticeable fuel caps found on both sides of the car which suggests a dual fuel tank or plug-in hybrid drivetrain, although the usual stickers used for plug-in hybrid prototype vehicles were nowhere to be found.
The prominent humps that were found on earlier versions of the car are gone. The car is reported to have a dual-cab body style. Aside from that, it might also have a rugged interior with vinyl floors that potential buyers might like.
Northern Europe was not Mercedes X-Class' first testing area. It was tested in Australia, South Africa and Latin America.
Mercedes-Benz tested the suspension settings, anti-lock brake, stability control hardware and 4WD systems in Australia. The Mercedes X-Class is set for release in 2018.
