Tesla Model Y Render Leaks; Compact Crossover Expected To Roll Out in 2019

Electric car manufacturer Tesla has kept its silence of details of the upcoming Tesla Model Y, but this did not deter insiders to leak photos which gave the motoring community its first glimpse of the promising car. The Tesla Model Y is a compact crossover which was designed in the same platform as the Model 3.

If rumors are true, the Tesla Model Y will be the company's most affordable car. The electric compact crossover is rumored to have a price tag of $37,000, according to Auto Week. The Model Y is based on the Model 3 platform, so it is expected that the car will look great.

The existence of the Model Y was in fact confirmed by the company's founder and chief executive officer Elon Musk almost 17 months ago through Twitter. Musk responded to a fan asking about a possible crossover model, to which the innovator replied, "There will be a Model 3 and a Model Y. One of the two will."

Tesla is currently occupied with mass production of the Model 3. This led many to believe that once the Model 3 rolls out later this year, the company will start working on a production model of the Model Y crossover.

According to Auto Car, the Tesla Model Y's design features a bigger frontal area. Something that pointed to a possibility that the car will house a much bigger battery pack that the entry-level Model 3.

Tesla Model Y and the Model 3 will play a crucial role in Tesla's turnaround, as the company is currently cash strapped due to recent investments. Since 2010, Tesla has spent close to $2 billion in investments like building the Gigafactory and upgrading its facilities to support higher unit productions.
