An early prototype believed to be that of the next-generation four-door Jeep Wrangler have been recently spotted. The photos of the alleged 2018 Jeep Wrangler have circulated on several motoring websites with rumors claiming that the production version of the well-loved compact SUV is expected to make its debut in the months to come.

Despite being covered in camouflage decals, the bodywork and design that made Wrangler famous is still noticeable. It's just a bit disappointing that the rumored upgraded suspensions are not visible. Nevertheless, the spy photographs are enough to spark discussions on several websites.

There are speculations claiming that the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will have a longer wheelbase compared to its predecessors. This will create more space on its cabin and might even add some seats. Moreover, it is also a widely tossed idea that Jeep will ditch the conventional five-speed gearbox in favor of the new eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, according to Cars Guide.

According to Auto Guide, the next-generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be using aluminum for some of its bodywork in order to drop weight. Nevertheless, majority of its body will still be made out of steel.

In terms of engine choice, speculations and rumors claim that the new Wrangler will pack a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine called the Hurricane. This is a new and interesting choice, as Jeep plans to add a more fuel-efficient model into its Wrangler lineup.

Nevertheless, the iconic Pentastar V6 engine will still be on the options list. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Another engine choice for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 which is expected to be exclusively available in the United States. Rumors also claim that Jeep is working on a hybrid powertrain option, although this has to be taken with a grain of salt since the company has yet to get the official words out.
