Geneva Motor Show Preview Update: LaFerrari Supercar Makes Worldwide Debut, Features Include A Top Speed Of 217 MPH (PHOTOS/ VIDEO)

Ferrari revealed their new supercar called LaFerrari for the first time ever this week at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The new vehicle is powered by a 950bhp petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain, and can accelerate from 0 to 62 in under three seconds according to a company press release. The company also timed the car going from 0 to 125 mph, which it can achieve in seven seconds, and 186 mph in 15 seconds. All three of the times are faster than some cars can reach 60 mph.

"We chose to call this model LaFerrari because it is the maximum expression of what defines our company - excellence," said Ferrari's President, Luca di Montezemolo according to The Sacramento Bee. "Excellence in terms of technological innovation, performance, styling and the sheer thrill of driving. Aimed at our collectors, this is a truly extraordinary car which encompasses advanced solutions that, in the future, will find their way onto the rest of the range, and it represents the benchmark for the entire automotive industry."

The vehicle can reach a reported top speed of 217 mph according to The Telegraph.

The new hybrid does not feature an all-electric mode, like another car making its world debut, the new McLaren P1. This means CO2 emissions are 330 g/km, but the company did mention this week at the show they may eventually include an electric-only mode on future vehicles.

Montezemolo stated that customers should expect the LaFerrari to be equipped with some new "dynamic" controls that were integrated for the first time ever on a Ferrari road car. The LaFerrari is also the first car in the company's history to be powered by the HY-KERS system according to the company press release.

"LaFerrari is the finest expression of our company's unique, unparalleled engineering and design know-how, including that acquired in Formula 1," said Montezemolo according to The Sacramento Bee.
