Mercedes-Benz Debuts World’s Most Expensive SUV In Geneva; Thermal Cup Holders, Massage Chairs, Plus All The Elements Of An Off Roader

The 2017 Geneva Motor Show is expectedly a showcase of some of the most stunning car models to date. While there were a lot of head turners, there is one that broke records recently for setting a new bar as the world's most expensive SUV. The new Mercedes-Benz Maybach SUV is bent on giving its owners a breathtakingly pleasant off-road driving experience.

Fortune reports that passengers of the V12 powered Mercedes-Benz Maybach G Class 650 will get to experience soothing massages from its top-of-the-line leather chairs. At the same time, they can be treated to warm drinks, thanks to built-in thermal cup holders. The Maybach also has a sunroof that soundlessly opens the view to the starry sky and the great outdoors.

The Mercedes-Benz Maybach G Class 650 is so far the world's most expensive sport utility vehicle with a price tag of $500,000. This is expected to make parent company Daimler AG's premiere Maybach marquee rise from obscurity following a surging market demand for high-end SUVs. The G Class 650 will be limited to a run of 99 and will have a landaulet-style and a front row that is covered. It also has a retractable fabric roof at the back.

Gunner Guethenke, head of Mercedes' SUV department, said that this car was designed to meet the highest demands for luxury. At the same time, it is meant to make the Mercedes-Benz Maybach G Class 650 complete in itself as an off-roader. The G class is named for Gelaendewagen, which is German for an all-terrain vehicle, writes Bloomberg.

The Mercedes-Benz Maybach G Class 650 is Daimler's response to the pressure to foot the soaring bill of developing electric cars, self-driving feature and ridesharing platforms. Daimler is not targeting a very wealthy market with its luxury models, but it has also been adding more affordable cars that it sells in large volumes. This comes after years of struggling to obtain a niche for Maybach. Mercedes-Benz managed to revive the 1930s-era brand in 2014 and has expanded with more opulent adaptations of popular models.
