The 2018 Jaguar E-Pace was caught on video cold weather testing. And despite the heavy camouflage, it is evident that this upcoming compact SUV will rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q3, and BMW X1. Could this new compact SUV be Jaguar's version of the now-famous Range Rover Velar?
Since Jaguar's sales on its F-Pace soared, it is no surprise that the automaker is already at an advanced stage of its 2nd SUV. Well, a prototype has been spotted earlier this year and recently.
The second-generation SUV, the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace, could propel Jaguar forward as much as how the recently unveiled 2018 Range Rover Velar did for Land Rover. In a nutshell, the upcoming E-Pace could the key to the brand's future success, their own kind of Velar fame.
Exterior. With a similar size as the Range Rover Evoque, this 5-seater is set to rival Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and BMW X1, reports MotorAuthority. But it will be built on the same LR-MS steel platform as the Discover Sport and Evoque, though it will have similar proportions like those of the F-Pace.
The 2018 Jaguar E-Pace looks a bit sportier despite the massive camo. But its styling is close to its brother, with a rectangular grille up front, a five-door body, and slit-like lights on both ends. Probably the difference between the two is that the E-Pace comes with a shorter wheelbase and has a more composed rear and overhangs.
Engine. According to AutoCar, the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace could be powered by the Ingenium family of engines, the 2.0-liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel. This is expected to be mated to an FWD setup or an AWD setup. But a hybrid version of the compact SUV could also be along the line.
Tech. First introduced in the Range Rover, the "DualView" tech offered by InControl Touch Pro could be housed in the next-generation compact SUV. The Jaguar F-Pace has already been updated to feature this specific tech.
Pricing. Pricing for the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace should be significantly less than its big brother, which starts at $41,990. And it is said that this could undercut the Evoque's base price of $37,356.48.
It is yet too early to talk when the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace is set to be unveiled as all eyes are on the stylishly chic 2018 Range Rover Velar. And Jaguar has remained tight-lipped regarding its next-generation compact SUV. However, it is could be unveiled later this year, perhaps mid-2017.
