The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are two of the most highly anticipated power rides soon to be released. Spy shots and information from reliable sources have been circulating, giving industry experts a good preview of how both rides will be like upon official release.
According to Horsepower Kings, some information on the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 were given at the NAIAS in Detroit. It was reported that the power plant can produce well over 700-horsepower all the while breathing through a straw as sources said. This has then gave birth to the idea that the 2018 Shelby GT500 will have Forced Induction. Some rumors also say that Ford is working hard on Direct Injection for the new power plant.
It is also rumored that the 5.0 EcoBoost will make its debut through the 2018 GT500. This is something that Ford should closely look into as that is what people collectively want. Also, the GT350 and GT350R are made for the race track while the GT500 ultimately belongs to the freeway. It is also expected that Ford will stick to traditional lobe crankshaft or at least be different from 5.2-liter GT350 platform.
As weight reduction of vehicles is the current direction that most car manufacturers are headed to, Ford is expected to do the same with the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The GT500 may come with an extreme use of aluminum and carbon fiber to achieve its ultimate weight loss for faster speed and better fuel economy. The GT500 may then become an ultimate lightweight for only weighing 3,600 pounds yet a powerhouse for producing well over 700-horsepower.
On the other hand, there is the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon teasing all power and speed enthusiasts. According to Road and Track, latest developments on the Demon is regarding its driveline. Just few days ago, March 2, 2017, Dodge revealed that the SRT Demon will be beefier, will have stronger driveshaft capable of 15 percent more torque, and stronger half-shafts with lower friction bearings.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will also have Launch Assist mode to battle driveline-grenading wheel hop. This system reduces driveline overload by 15 to 20 percent. It also made official that Dodge included four-point harness bar for track use which is available through Speedlogix. With this, the SRT Demon is poised to be a great contender of GT500 as it is also made to perform its optimum while on drag racing.
It is hard to tell the difference between the two as limited information is available to make a credible judgment. The battle is definitely far from over between the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. However, it is important to note that upon official release, these two are expected to dominate the tracks. By then, the ultimate winner between the two can be proclaimed.
