A new video game heroine has emerged in the name of Aloy in "Horizon: Zero Dawn." It may have been a long time since a women became the lead character in a video game but Aloy is not the first, there were a lot of heroines that came before her.
Samus Aran. She is one of the forgotten video game heroines of the past. Samus Aran first appeared in the game "Metroid" that was created in 1986.
According to CBC, players did not know that Aran was a woman until she removed her helmet, revealing a long blond hair. She is considered by many as one of the first heroines of Nintendo.
Laura Bow. She is an amateur-detective from "The Colonel's Bequest." Bow was created by Bried Code, a game developer from Montreal.
According to the developer, Laura Bow is a strong and inquisitive young woman. She stands around 6'8" tall and has the body of a mixed martial arts champion.
Chun-Li. Of course, who could forget Chun-Li of "Street Fighter 2." She is reportedly the only video game heroine in the 1991 game.
She is known for her impressive and rapid kicks. Chun-Li also has an amazing quote that every player could remember she's saying after winning a match. "I am the strongest women in the world" remains to be one of the most powerful and memorable gaming lines even today.
Shondan. She is an artificial intelligence from the game "System Shock 2." She will always be remembered as one of creepiest villains in video game history. However, it still does not erase the fact that she is downright coo.
"Shodan is just so cool. She is shrewd, ruthless and deliciously evil. You have to respect her drive and focus!" Shodan's creator Mare Sheppard said.
Lara Croft. Now, here is a game that created two movies with Angelina Jolie as the lead. Lara Croft first appeared in 1996 in the game "Tomb Raider." Like the movies, Croft is a confident millionaire archeologist who gets into mystical adventures a lot.
In 2013, the game had a reboot that was highly praised by critics. Lara Croft traded her guns with bow and arrows in the reboot.
Ana. Ana from "Overwatch" is the last video game heroine on this list. There may be a lot of women to choose from in the game Ana takes the cake.
She is a 60-year-old woman that has the ability to heal allies and impair enemies. Ana has a sidearm that can be used as a tranquilizer and Nano Boost that increases the power of her allies.
Just recently, PC Gamer reported that this long range healer will be having a downgrade on her damage output. There have been no reports on the downgrade on this video game heroine's damage output. Even though these women are fictional, they prove that there is no need for a knight and shining armor to come their way because they can handle their selves.
