Jaguar I-Pace first appeared at the Los Angeles auto show last November. Jaguar's new I-Pace will decide the future of the luxury vehicle maker. The Jaguar I-Pace has been given a new look before the Geneva Motor Show. The I-Pace has been repainted and given a color it would take up after production. The new car, in its Photon Red color, will look more in line with the other cars in the lineup.
The Jaguar I-Pace takes a page from the F-Pace as it uses the same D7a flexible aluminum architecture. However, this is the only thing that the I-Pace has taken from F-Pace. All of the other features have been developed from the scratch. The double-wishbone front axle and multilink rear suspension will give the same abilities to I-Pace like its cousin.
"Because we're still in the phase when every Jaguar must be instantly identifiable as a Jaguar, we kept the family face largely unchanged for the electric vehicle, so that more people get to know and understand the brand," said Jaguar's chief designer Ian Callum. The design ensures that I-Pace can increase the range as it only has a 0.29 drag coefficient, reported Motor Trend.
"The I-Pace Concept is a radical departure for electric vehicles," said Callum. "It represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. It's a dramatic, future-facing design - the product of authentic Jaguar DNA matched with beautiful, premium details and British craftsmanship."
It is said that the Jaguar I-Pace will take only about 90 minutes to reach 80 percent of max power. At the same time, the automaker is also working on a faster DC charger and a wireless inductive charging option.
The car derives its power from the in-house-developed lithium-ion battery pack. This will deliver up to 90 kWh. To ensure that the thermal efficiency is maintained, the battery cells are wrapped by both heating and cooling circuits. The power that is delivered will be in the 400-hp, 516-lb-ft range, reported Auto Evolution.
It is expected that the Jaguar I-Pace will cost close to $90,000. Jaguar's new I-Pace will be displayed at the Geneva Motor Show.
