Gynecologist Hid Camera In Pen Around His Neck, Secretly Recorded Patients During Exams

A gynecologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital has been accused of secretly recording patients during exams using a small camera he wore around his neck.

The accused doctor, 54-year-old Nikita Levy, allegedly killed himself in his home last week after being fired from the hospital Feb. 8.

A Hopkins employee told hospital officials of her suspicions on Feb. 4, according to a report from Bloomberg News. The employee's report ultimately led officials to discover that Levy had been recording patients during exams.

Levy wore a writing pen-like device around his neck while examining patients, which an employee believed to be a secret camera.
The day after Levy was initially reported, hospital security personal questioned the doctor in his office, Bloomberg News reported. Devices similar to the one described by the employee were seen in the office and on Levy, prompting the hospital to bar him from patient contact and escort him off hospital grounds, the report stated.

The day after Levy's removal Baltimore police were notified, prompting an investigation that led to the discovery of "large amounts of multimedia evidence."

Police have said more than 2,000 current and former patients of Levy have contacted the hospital, the article stated. Numerous class action lawsuits have been filed against the hospital.

"One of the overwhelming repeat kind of questions you get is how did this happen? Where are the videos? How do I know if I'm on one of these videos?" said attorney Scott Lucas, in a CBS News report. In a statement Johns Hopkins said, "Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are for every patient whose privacy may have been violated."
