The Volvo XC60 will debut this week at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with three new advanced driver assistance features aimed at boosting user safety. These provide automatic steering assistance and support when needed and are designed for smoother drives.
The City Safety system has been updated to engage when automatic braking alone would not do anything. This help avoids a potential collision with another vehicle, pedestrian or a large anima. The support also activates when one drives between 32 and 62 mph.
Auto News reports that a new feature called Oncoming Lane Mitigation has also been added to the Volvo XC60. This helps drivers avoid collisions with vehicles on the oncoming lane. This new feature works to alert a driver who has drifted out of his lane and will automatically steer the vehicle out of the path of an oncoming vehicle. This safety feature activates automatically when running between 37 and 87 mph.
The third safety feature is optional for the Volvo XC60, although it looks like it will contribute a lot. This is called the Blind Spot Information System. This works by alert the driver to the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot. It has been upgraded to steer the vehicle back to its own lane and away from danger's way. This is a big help for its considerably bulky body with significant blind spots.
According to Car Scoops, the new Volvo XC60 adopts a familiar look that closely resembles the XC90. This includes that LED DRLs, which has been considered to resemble Thor's hammer. These are incorporated into the headlights and taillights and they seem to have almost identical shape and pattern.
The Volvo XC90 is a premium compact SUV that shares the architecture with the rest of the 90 range, which includes the SC90, S90 Saloon and V90 Estate. This latest addition by Volvo is expected to go on sale somewhere close to the end of the year and will likely to be powered by an assortment of 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder gas and diesel engines. It looks like Volvo is also considering electrifications with hybrid models that could possibly join the line up when it officially gets released.
