McLaren disclosed the price and speed of the supercar on Wednesday and told everybody who's keeping their eyes on the P1 something they already knew: the car will be as expensive as it is fast.
The new P1 supercar from McLaren will carry a $1.15 million price tag when the car is released in North America in early 2014, a release from McLaren stated.
The rare person who can afford a P1 will end up owning a rarity itself; only 375 P1s will be produce worldwide, the release stated.
The more-than-a million dollar sticker price will buy those 375 people what amounts to the fastest hybrid on the planet. The supercar can churn out a total of 903 horsepower than 664 lb-ft of torque from its hybrid powertrain, which consists of a twin turbocharged V-8 gasoline engine and an electric motor capable of releasing al of it's power in one speedy burst.
The net results? From full stop to 62 mph in less than three seconds, zero to 124 mph in less than seven seconds, and from zero to 186 mph in less than 17 seconds, making the P1 23 percent faster than its predecessor the F1.
The car's top speed is electronically limited to 217.5 mph.
Based on positive reviews from potential buyers, the production model P1 is virtually unchanged from its concept design unveiled last September in Paris. The P1 will be available in a variety of colors and trim options and customers will be able to choose the interior carbon fiber color as well.
