Automotive company Daimler recently announced that it is recalling more than 1 million units of Mercedes-Benz cars due to potential fire hazards. The recall could potentially include 75,000 units in the United Kingdom and 308,000 units in the United States.

The global recall was issued after incidents of car fires were reported in several countries. Daimler said that internal investigations reveal that there was an issue with an engine part that caused the fire.

"This situation typically occurs in the rare situation where a vehicle is stranded in a significant amount of standing water and the engine stalls and cannot be restarted on the first try," a Mercedes spokesperson said in a statement acquired by CNNMoney.

Daimler said that the company is not aware of any injuries or deaths related to the issue. The recall will include the following Mercedes-Benz models: C Class and E Class vehicles, as well as the GLC, GLA, and CLA models, according to BBC. The company later added that cars within its inventory that are outfitted with the faulty components will not be sold until they are properly fixed.

A total of 35 fires were reported that are related to the issue, 30 of these fires were reported in the United States. Both Daimler and Mercedes-Benz have yet to confirm whether the recall will cover other countries as well.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which assists companies in recalls, said that Mercedes has already notified the agency. The recall is voluntary and Mercedes will properly notify affected owners and instruct them on what to do.

Mercedes expected that the problem will be fixed in the United States within the next 60 days. Affected customers will have to bring their cars into designated dealers. Mercedes added that the fix will take about an hour to complete.
