Search giant Google will finally be releasing its Google Assistant to all Android smartphones running the Android Marshmallow OS and up. This was announced via a Google blog post published on Sunday.
Google Assistant to be released to smartphones with Android OS 6.0 and up. According to a blog post published on February 26 and written by Gummi Hafsteinsson, Google will be rolling out its artificially intelligent virtual Assist to all other Android smartphones that run on Android 6.0 and up via an update. Hafsteinsson is the AI-based virtual assistant's product lead.
When released, the AI-based virtual assistant will only be available in the English language in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia. The virtual assistant will also be rolled out to German-speaking users in Germany. More languages will be released as the year progresses.
The virtual assistant was initially available only to the Pixel, Pixel Plus, Android Wear, and the Allo messaging app. The newly unveiled LG G6 is actually the first smartphone outside of the Pixel line to get the AI-based virtual assistant.
The release of the virtual assistant to other Android smartphones is just one of the many plans that Google lined up. The search giant intends to eventually release it to televisions, desktop computers, and even cars.
Among the many things that a user will be able to do with Google Assistant are setting reminders, retrieving information from emails, getting weather conditions, asking directions, turning on connectivity, bringing up photos based on their location, and translating phrases.
The virtual assistant will not be rolled out via an update through the smartphone user's carrier. Instead, it will automatically arrived to all android devices running Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat with Google Play Services.
The tech firm will be conducting a demonstration at the Mobile World Congress. The MWC 2017 is going to be held in Barcelona, Spain this week.
