2017 Volvo XC90: A Stylish, Luxurious, And Semi Autonomous SUV

Among three-row luxury SUVs, the all new 2017 Volvo XC90 has an excellent cargo capacity, safety features, and style. The cabin is stylish and offers many choices for personalization. The powertrain and ride quality may not be segment-leading, but it's still a midsize SUV that deserves consideration.

The 2017 model gets updates to its driver assistance system and more app for the infotainment system, and the addition of a range-topping new trim level. The elegant 2017 model is the company's flagship.

Its cabin marries textures including matte-finish wood, leather, metal and even crystal. Any doubt as to the car's luxurious aspirations, a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system should put it to rest.

An extensive list of safety and driver's assistance features is also offered on the new model. Frontal collision detection with automatic braking comes standard, and it applies the brakes when the driver attempts to turn in front of an oncoming vehicle. In addition, energy-absorbing seat cushions and self-tightening seat belts decrease potential spinal injuries.

For this year, auto-steering has been added to avoid a road departure. A Pilot Assist II is also installed, which provides a semi-autonomous driving mode at speeds up to 80 mph.

The brand's 2017 model is a four-passenger, five passenger or seven-passenger luxury crossover SUV that comes in four trim levels; base Momentum, plush Inscription, sporty R-Design, and ultra-luxe Excellence. The regular XC90s are referred to as the T5 and T6 while the hybrid version is called the T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid.

The 2017 Volvo XC90 T5 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter powertrain that produces 250hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. A front or all-wheel drive is available and is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volvo claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds in FWD form and 7.9 seconds with all-wheel drive.

On the inside, front-seat accommodations are spacious and comfortable. A 9-inch central touchscreen is also available which gives an excellent map viewing and menu structures.  The child booster seat that's located in the center section of the 40/20/40-split second-row bench can be adjusted forward to put the occupant within easy reach of parents.

The 2017 Volvo XC90's ride quality is supremely smooth especially when the option air suspension is in Comfort mode. The Dynamic mode also makes the car handle better, and off-road mode makes it a beast off-roader.
