Three days prior to the premiere of the show's sixth season, HBO ordered a seventh season of Game of Thrones. The inevitable announcement of a seventh season was not what fans were after but when exactly that season would premiere.

Game of Thrones season seven release date. The announcement of HBO's order of the seventh season of GoT, unfortunately, didn't come with details such as the ever so important release date. Shooting started in August of last year but had to be delayed given that since 'winter' is finally here, production would need to adjust and ensure that shooting happened during months where the weather would be cooperative.The shooting was supposed to end this month in fact.

When initially asked about the GoT season 7's production and release, showrunners responded, "We're starting a bit later because, you know, at the end of this season, winter is here, and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. We kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot."

The move in production date has obviously affected the airdate for the show's seventh season. The showrunners stated, "No... we don't have an airdate yet, but this year it'll probably be a bit later." It is speculated that filming will continue in summer of this year which means that an airdate will be much later than a bit later but most likely before the year ends.

Previous seasons of game thrones premiered as early as March 31 and as late as April 24. Until an official announcement is released, the seventh season's airdate could be anyone's guess really.

Game of Thrones Season 7 will see the return of Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The new season will also be introducing new cast members who include Tom Hopper and Jim Broadbent.
