Henry Ford's Great-Great Granddaughter Made Company VP

For the first time in more than a decade a Ford family member was made a corporate officer at Ford Motor Company. Elena Ford, the great-great granddaughter of Henry Ford, has been elected vice president of the company, The Detroit Free Press reported Friday.

The last time a Ford family member was made an officer was in 1994 when Bill Ford was appointed the Ford vice presidency after a tenure as vice president of the company's commercial trucks division.

Bill Ford ascended the ranks, eventually becoming president, chairman and CEO of Ford before he hired Alan Mulally in 2006 to oversee daily operations.

Elena Ford is the daughter of Charlotte Ford and Greek shipping magnate Starvos Niarchos, the article reported. She is the first female Ford family member to hold a significant position at the automaker.

Elena Ford's vice presidency will make her the 38th person to join the corporate board, a number that reached as high as 50 before operations were downsized in 2006, the report stated.

At 46-years-old, she will run the company's new global dealer and consumer experience organization. She is also director of global marketing operations, the report stated.

A few of the numerous new job roles Elena Ford will take on include improving vehicle quality, overseeing global dealer strategy, planning and training. She will play a role in introducing Ford's Loncoln brand to China next year, the article reported.

"Elena has extensive experience in global marketing, and her passion for our dealers is well-known around the world," Jim Farley, executive vice president in charge of global marketing, sales, service and Lincoln, said, according to the Free Press.
