When "Sherlock" Season 4 Episode 3 finally ended, it left viewers gasping for news whether or not "The Final Problem" is in fact, the "final episode" of the "final season." Luckily, BBC's hit crime drama co-creator and star Mark Gatiss and also the second mastermind Steven Moffat broke their silence as regards the future of the series. But be warned, just don't get your hopes up just yet.

One of the seemingly strong issues that could possibly have hindered "Sherlock" Season 5 shoot is the tight uncoordinated schedules of the men who breathe life into Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, respectively. And based on the statements from the show's co-creators, it seems we might not visit Baker Street for some time.

Mark Gatiss on the duo's schedule. Mark Gatiss, who plays Sherlock's dearly politically oriented older brother, commented on the grim future of "Sherlock" Season 5 when he made an appearance during the WhatsOnStage Awards. He told The Sun, according to a DailyMail report: "I honestly don't know if there will be anymore. It's incredibly difficult to get Benedict and Martin's diaries to align. And obviously we left it in a very happy place... if that's the end I'd be very happy where we left it."

Well, this clearly rained on our parade. Benedict Cumberbatch, who is the character actor behind Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Who, and of course Doctor Strange, is now part of Marvel Cinematic Universe all thanks to his stellar performance playing as the surgeon turned superhero with mystical powers. Meanwhile, Martin Freeman, who played Dr. John Watson, also recently joined the superhero department, "Captain America: Civil War."

Possibility of "Sherlock" Season 4 being the last. The second evil genius behind the hit crime drama series also discussed possibilities of ending with only 4 seasons. "If this is the last time - and I'm not planning on it to be, but it might be - it is possible that we could end it," Steven Moffat told Deadline according to ComicBook.

But hey, at least "Sherlock" Season 4 ended without any cliffhangers if that's any consolation. Compared with the show's first 3 seasons where we had to hold our breath for a couple of years, the latest season had a pretty definitive end. Cue in the musical montage.

With no confirmed indication of a "Sherlock" Season 5, all we could do for now is sit back and wait until we once again walk along Baker Street. There is always the possibility of binge watching the series over and over again just so you could see the iconic detective and his partner once more.
