iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Update: Evasion Will Be Ready For iPhone 4S, 5 Devices By Sunday, 80 Percent Complete, What To Do Before You Update (VIDEO)

Sunday could be a very important day for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 owners, as the release of evasiOn is expected to come on Feb. 3 according to a report by the International Business Times.

The status bar on the official website for evasiOn reached 80 percent completion this weekend, meaning the anticipated iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak could be just a day away from being released.

On Feb. 1, 75 percent of the work was completed on for the jailbreak with only the Linux version of evasion left to go. The website showed progress had been made virtually overnight according to Mobile&Apps.com.

Reports indicate that private beta testing for Mac OS x, Windows, and Linux has been started, but it is very likely that the hackers working on evasiOn will be very careful to make sure an unwanted leak doesn't occur.

"I haven't been on IRC in four hours (got a little bit of sleep) so I don't know exactly who we've given test versions to but I doubt this is real," said a respected hacker who goes by the Twitter handle planetbeing on Reddit. "We would never select anyone a. We haven't known for years and b. Posts on social networks bragging about getting a test version."

The first thing you'll want to do before trying to jailbreak your phone, is to make sure your iOS device is compatible with the iOS 6.1 jailbreak. Most recently released devices are compatible, but older products like the iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and all first generation iPads according to SlashGear.com.

After making sure your device is compatible, you can update directly through your device in Settings or through iTunes after plugging your device in to your computer. Make sure you have backed up your device as well so you don't lose anything important accidentally.

After that it's really up to you if you want to jailbreak your entire phone, or if you want to jailbreak the device while still keeping all of your apps and settings as they are. If you want to keep all your apps and settings, it will take a little longer than a fresh jailbreak according to SlashGear.
