The NSX is an auto brand that is representative of what a Honda car is always about - fast, powerful and fun driving. It represents an elegant era of Japanese car design that delivered the best versions of the Mazda RX-7 and the Toyota Supra. This year, Honda is introducing the 2017 Acura NSX. Is the new NSX a worthy successor of the old Honda NSX R?
Automotive social media website DriveTribe performed a comparative road test to determine how the latest NSX fared against the old one. The old NSX is one tough act to follow so DriveTribe tested if the newborn vehicle can live up to its much-revered nameplate.
DriveTribe's Jethro Bovingdon pitted the two cars back to back to know the experiences offered by both. The original NSX is considered a purist's analog car. Both have six cylinders in the middle in the middle.
According to Bovingdon, the new NSX's weight and soft brake pedal gave him some issues. While his remarks are mostly positive about the 2017 Acura NSX, the driving identity it offers is very different to its predecessor.
Bovingdon prefers the old NSX's highly-engaging drive despite it being faster than the new model. For him, the latest NSX lacks the character that made its grandpa a fun driving experience. But his final verdict is favorable of the new one - an NSX will always be an NSX.
The 21st-century take on the NSX starts at $156,000. It has three motors which join the mid-mounted, twin-turbo V6 that powers the four wheels. The engine can deliver 500 horsepower with the motors adding another 73. The new NSX can propel the car to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds and can offer a maximum speed of 191 miles per hour.
