We all know that the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon will come out with a loud bang. But Fiat Chrysler has been teasing us with minor tidbits and videos here and there as regards with the full information of the upcoming beefy Challenger. One thing is for sure, it will weigh 215 pounds less than its predecessor, the Hellcat, and of course will be mighty faster.
Spread over the next 10 weeks, leading up to the April 11 reveal, the Italian-controlled Dutch automaker has revealed only minor details and teased Challenger fans and motorheads about their most powerful machine. Why? It's simply because they can.
To become demonically and insanely fast and beat the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon has to undergo a weight loss program. Dodge officials noted that the beefy Challenger will weigh exactly 215 lb lesser compared with the Hellcat, according to MotorAuthority.
So, here's the diet the Demon had to go through. First off, 23 noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) components have been removed, worth 18 lbs. This means that the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon will be more than loud. The Hellcat will sound like a hungry kitten compared with the Demon.
Also removed are parking sensors weighing 2 pounds and replacing the manual tilt/telescope steering wheels, saving 4 pounds. Plus, MotorTrend reports that the car will be lighter with 18x11-inch aluminum wheels with open lug nuts (16 pounds), replacing the 20-inch ones, and choosing four-piston front brake calipers. The car also has a smaller diameter and hollow sway bar at 19 pounds.
Next is the removal of the front passenger seat weighing 58 pounds and the rear seats, saving 55 pounds. Of course, with the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon being a performance vehicle, comfort is the least of the driver's worries. But the seats will probably be an option.
So, having no passenger seats means that 24 pounds of stereo have been hacked off the Demon, only leaving the front door speakers. Also, 20 pounds of trunk lining and spare tire/wheel have been removed.
All of these would sum up a total weight loss of 232 pounds. But the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon is supposedly going to weigh 215 pounds lesser, meaning it has gained 17 pounds. What it gained will soon be revealed as we patiently wait for another round of surprise from the automaker behind the Demon and Hellcat.
