The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Moab Edition has been named "Four Wheeler of the Year" by Four Wheeler Magazine. Testing was reportedly conducted on over a thousand miles on a variety of different terrains like dirt, sand, rocks and pavement according to a company press release.
Editors selected the Wrangler due to its Goodyear off-road-tires, steel bumpers, and other features according to Four Wheeler Magazine.
"The new Jeep Wrangler Moab edition is a perfect example of listening to our loyal Wrangler owners, who appreciate new levels of capability in a unique package," said Mike Manley, President and CEO of Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC in a press release.
To qualify for the award, all entries had to be either an entirely new model or changed with "substantial mechanical revisions from a previous model year" according to Chrysler. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon won last years award and the Jeep Grand Cherokee won the year before that.
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was also named Best 4x4 vehicle of the decade by Four Wheeler Magazine for all models released from 2000 through 2009.
"The Moab edition recognizes a die-hard off-roading destination Jeep owners love, while providing even more capability, including winch-capable steel bumpers, upgraded rock rails and a rear locker," said Manley in the press release. "We're especially pleased that the influential Four Wheeler editors put our latest Jeep Wrangler to the test and clearly recognized its capability."
Other awards that Wrangler has won this year according to the press release includes an SEMA award for "Hottest 4x4 SUV", an ALV award for "Best Off-Road Value" and an Texas Auto Writers Association award for best "Mid-Sized SUV Of Texas"
The Unlimited Moab Edition features 17-inch wheels, and standard Trak-Lok anti-spin rear differential with an optional electronic rear locking differential according to Chrysler. The vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine.
"The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Moab is an extremely versatile vehicle, and was a hands-down trail favorite of the Four Wheeler judges," said John Cappa, Four Wheeler editor in a press release. "The improved interior comfort, amenities, power and overall performance both on- and off-road make it worthy of being our 2013 Four Wheeler of the Year."
