LA Auto Show: 2014 Mazda 6 Sedan Introduced, Vehicle Will Be Released With Two Engine Options (VIDEO)

The market for a family sized sedan was competitive as ever during 2012 with vehicles like the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord, other companies like Mazda felt they needed to do something in order to keep up with the competition.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show on Thursday, Mazda revealed their equivalent to the Fusion and Accord models by showcasing the 2014 Mazda 6 sedan for the first time in the US. The car will be released with a gas and diesel engine options in 2013, which could potentially be a sign of things to come for future Mazda vehicles.

"Our Los Angeles announcements are only tips of the iceberg," said Jim O' Sullivan, president and chief executive of Mazda North America at the event. "The best is yet to come."

The first model will be released this coming January, which feature a 2.5-L, four-cylinder gas powered engine. The vehicle is expected to achieve 184 horsepower and include 185 pound-feet of torque according to Mazda.

The gas model will come with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual option depending on the customer's preference. The company has yet to release fuel economy ratings yet for the vehicle, but has told critics and fans alike that they expect the car to be the best in its segment according to The Los Angeles Times.

The vehicle already has a lot to live up to, but Mazda has done its part to make the new car look great and come equipped with the newest features people will find in a comparable sedan of its size.

Both the gas and diesel vehicles will have the customized i-ELOOP system which acts as a braking system that stores "captured energy in a capacitor" instead of say an electric motor or battery according to Mazda. This allows the vehicle to be lighter than ever before and should improve each car's overall performance.

Other features available for each vehicle include a TomTom navigation device and a Bose stereo system to improve your driving experience.

The LA Auto Show officially opens to the public today and runs through Dec. 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
