Police in Austin, Texas has filed DWI charge against a 28-year-old man who crashed his $385,000 rare 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale into the woods while driving mph. The alleged drunk driver is James Sidney Allen who was with two other people when the accident happened at Red Bud Trail in West Lake Hills last week.

According to the Austin Fire Department, the two-seat sports car went airborne for 40 feet and drove off a bridge. Allen is now facing a charge of driving while intoxicated. One witness relayed that the luxury vehicle plummeted an estimated 50 feet into a ravine.

The DWI charge was filed after police and medics detected alcohol on Allen. His co-passengers, a man and a woman, suffered numerous lacerations. Allen admitted that he had two bottles of beer at the Steampunk Saloon. An arrest affidavit showed that Allen's speech was slurred and rapid during an interview.

A Facebook post from the Austin Fire Department noted that "the Ferrari failed to make the first turn (no surprise there) and continued straight into the woods". The post added that the car went airborne for 40 feet, flipped over in the air, and landed facing the way it went in, but on its side, down a 40-foot ravine.

Allen's sports car is a 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale which is currently priced at $385,000. The Italian automaker considers the vehicle as their most extremely-focused Ferrari V8 sports car in history. This speed monster can gain 62mph in three seconds and has a maximum speed of 199mph. Its 4.5L V8 engine can generate 597HP and 398 pound-foot of torque.

Ferrari is a high-risk marquee that could cost owners between $40,000 and $90,000 in insurance a year. According to CarInsuranceComparison.com, insurance companies are rather conservative because expenses when they are involved in an accident.
