Transformers 4 Release Date Announced, Mark Wahlberg Stars in New Michael Bay Film (VIDEO / SEE NEW LOGO)

Michael Bay officially confirmed this week that Transformers 4 will be released in a little over a year and half and even gave a release date to excite his legions of fans.

The "Transformers" sequel will be in theatres on June 27, 2014 and will star Mark Wahlberg who recently worked with Bay on the movie "Pain and Gain".

"Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I'm so fired up to be back working with him," said Bay on his website. ""An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy."

Earlier this month Bay tried denying rumors that Walberg would be taking over the reins for the successful film franchise by saying he was strictly working with him on another project. Due to the out warming support for Wahlberg to appear in the next "Transformers" movie, Bay decided to change his mind.

"Let's say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer," said Bay on his website. "So I'm here to say thanks internet chatter."

With a new star and a new logo, Bay is hoping to rejuvenate the franchise that while commercially successful hasn't always been a favorite with the critics.

The last movie " Transformers: Dark of the Moon " appeared on over 20 worse films of the year lists for 2011 and Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers called it one of the worse films he had ever seen and said the "movie makes you die a little inside." He gave the film zero stars out of four.

The first three Transformers films made over $2.5 billion in ticket sales worldwide. The last three films starred Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky but Bay has already confirmed the hero won't be returning in the next film. He has a reputation for changing his mind however, so we'll see if that actually happens or not.

"Pain and Gain" will be in theatres on April 26, 2013 and will also star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
