Verizon Wireless decided to waive billing fees this week for those affected by Hurricane Sandy in certain New York and New Jersey areas.
The areas affected on the east coast will have their talk and text fees waived for the time period from Oct. 29 through Nov. 16 .
"We put customers first, and we recognize how important it is to do something proactively for our customers when they need it most," Andrea Kimmet, spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless's Northeast region, said Tuesday in a press statement.
To find out if you qualify or to make sure your fees will be waived call 1-800-922-0204.
Eligible counties in New York and New Jersey Include:
New York: Bronx County, Kings County, Nassau County, New York County, Putnam County, Queens County, Richmond County, Rockland County, Suffolk County, and Westchester County
New Jersey: Atlantic City, Bergen County, Burlington County, Camden County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, Essex County, Gloucester County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Ocean County, Passaic County, Salem County, Somerset County, Sussex County, Union County, and Warren County.
Refunds won't be given to customers in these locations, rather people simply won't be charged for calls and texts made during that time period. People who have signed up for alerts to let them know when they are close to going over there minutes or text limits for the month will still receive the messages, but there is no need to worry about paying the fee.
Verizon has helped out those who have been suffering due to Hurricane Sandy in many ways like suspending late fees, keeping local retail stores open later, offering free domestic calling and offering mobile charging stations.
