Eva Longoria and Mark Sanchez Split: Will Jets Quarterback Play Improve On The Field?

2012 has not been a good year for New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Not only is his team off to a rocky 3-4 start this season, The New York Post has confirmed that he and actress Eva Longoria are no longer an item.

After dating for nearly four months, Longoria reportedly broke up with Sanchez due to scheduling conflicts between the two.

"Mark adores and respects Eva. It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends," a representative for Sanchez said Tuesday to the New York Post.

Sanchez has not been handling the breakup well so far, saying to friends that he did all he could to make her happy and to make things work between the two of them.

"The problem was Mark is very focused on football, while Eva is a busy businesswoman," a source told the New York Post. "She lives in Los Angeles, is doing a lot of philanthropic and political work, and is developing a number of TV shows, including the NBC dating series 'Ready for Love.' "

Though Sanchez hasn't been handling the break-up well, this could turn out to be a good thing for the often criticized Jets QB. He has received a lot of flak for being more concerned with his personal life than success on the football field since entering the league in 2009, similar to another Jets Quarterback, Hall of Famer Joe Namath.

Namath was also known to have a pretty publicized personal life and it ticked off a lot of his teammates. Though it took some time for Namath to balance out his personal life and work ethic on the field, he did wind up leading the Jets to a Super Bowl win in 1969.

Sanchez hasn't had a problem with any of his teammates as of yet, but has had to deal with the growing requests that he should be benched for backup Tim Tebow.

Sanchez currently has a quarterback rating of only 74.6 with 1,453 yards thrown, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions according to Yahoo. Perhaps now that that he doesn't have to worry about Longoria so much, he can focus strictly on football and improving his game before the season gets too out of hand.

Criticize Sanchez all you want for his play on the field, but he shouldn't take all the blame for the breakup however.

The Desperate Housewives star is also to blame due to her busy schedule which has included helping out with President Obama's reelection campaign. She was asked to speak at the Democratic National Convention last month as well and has appeared in anti-Romney commercials with other Hollywood actresses like Scarlett Johansson.

Longoria was previously married to San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker for six years before the couple got divorced in 2011. Sanchez has been previously linked to Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Kate Upton, and Hilary Rhoda.
